42nd Street is THE ultimate song and dance musical. I was very excited to hear that Lulu was taking over as Dorothy from last week for a very limited engagement.
Like everyone else, I thought “balls to the obscene West End costs, lets book NOW!”
So, despite this weeks relentless national press including The One Show, This Morning and Steve Wright – Lulu wasn’t “scheduled to appear” at any of the four Easter performances from Thursday.
There was no mention of her missing any dates during any of the above interviews.
I wasn’t told when booking, there was no announcement prior to the sensational opening number and I cannot find this shameful & sneaky admission anywhere on their official website.
The glorious 2000+ seat Theatre Royal was sold out, as it is for 2 performances Easter Saturday.
I’m told Ms. Lulu was on QVC last night flogging her creams whilst the cast sang “Getting out of town” and “We’re in the money”.
42nd Street is the story of a faded star who is replaced by an unassuming understudy who goes on to steal the show. #DeliciousIrony
So, in case you make the same mistake as me, LULU is not performing 29, 30th or 31st or March, the 16th May & the 22nd, 23rd & 30th June. Thanks for wasting my £75 x4 42nd Street.

Steph Parry did a fabulous job covering Lulu as Dorothy Brock last night. Who needs a ‘star’?
Ms. Parry is world class actress proving that a star name may gain grubby media interest to line the pockets of producers, but, adds nothing to the quality of the performance.
This gloriously decadent, 5* theatrical dream, delivers 2.5 hours of perfection – with Broadway standard energy, precision and performance!
The Theatre Royal Drury Lane is home to an entertainment triumph with an enormous, energy packed and sensationally talented cast!
There’s never been a bigger, better or more electrifying finale in West End history.

As well as the spectacle, there’s Broadway belters: We’re In The Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off To Buffalo, Dames, I Only Have Eyes For You. How can you lose?
This is a high energy, funny, clever, brilliantly crafted, beautifully produced and designed Showstopper!
Young Peggy Sawyer, played by the stunning Clare Halse, goes from an ensemble dancer to ‘the Star of the show’ in this ‘show within a show’ musical.
Clare is effortless, brilliant, stunning and a deliciously charming Star and performer.
Also, huge respect to Tom Lister who drives the show theatrically as Julian Marsh. A hugely charismatic actor with a terrific voice and glorious charisma.
The staging of this production is simple in the first half but glorious in Act 2.
The Live orchestra are just tremendous. The sound is superb and the scale of the band is quite remarkable.
Mark Bramble, co-author of the book for the original Broadway and West End productions of 42nd STREET and director of the award winning revival of 42nd STREET, returns to direct the new West End production triumphantly.
The costumes in this production are remarkable and totally OTT.
This show is camp, uplifting, exhilarating and utterly charming. It’s 100% escapism.
It’s a captivating ‘traditional’ musical revived perfectly in 2017 for modern and demanding audiences.
Don’t miss 42nd Street at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane. It’s a 5* hoot!
