Enjoy Celebrity Radio’s Only Men Aloud UK Tour On The Road Wyn Davis Interview….

Only Men Aloud was formed in 2000, with the aim of injecting new blood into the Welsh choir tradition.

September 2013 saw a complete reinvention of the group as the choir became a honed and toned 8-piece vocal ensemble.

The 8 men bring both a new sound and a more varied and eclectic repertoire to the mix, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to music theatre and opera, barbershop and swing to pop.

The new line-up features tenors Wyn Davies, David Fortey, Ben Smith and David Mahoney, baritones Craig Yates and Niall Allen and basses Stephen Hamnett and Huw Euron with conductor and musical director Tim Rhys-Evans.

Following their recent shake-up, the Classical Brit Award winners who came to prominence as BBC One’s Last Choir Standing have embarked on 2 extensive tours.

Their 2013 Christmas Tour took them to halls and arenas across the UK followed by a 12-date 2014 Spring Tour of Wales.

Over the years the hugely popular choir has built up a strong fan base across the country and were honoured to be asked to sing in the London 2012 Opening Ceremony as the Olympic Cauldron was lit.

Other prestigious events have included taking part in Don Black’s 75th Anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall

Tim and colleagues in OMA also run The Aloud Charity which is developing opportunities for Welsh youngsters in Only Boys Aloud and the Wales Millennium Centre Only Kids Aloud Chorus to discover the joys and benefits of choral singing.

This has already seen some remarkable achievements – OBA came third in the 2012 final of Britain’s Got Talent and recorded a Top 40 Christmas album and OKA travelled to St Petersburg to take part in Mahler’s Eighth at the Mariinksy Theatre under Valery Gergiev and more recently to Cape Town along with Bryn Terfel to perform in a musical celebration marking 20 years of Democracy in South Africa.

Born in Neath, Wyn has been a member of OMA since 2004. During this time he has qualified as a pharmacist, developed his career as a TV and radio presenter, and now studies under the renowned tenor Dennis O’Neill at the Wales International Academy of Voice (WIAV). Away from work, Wyn enjoys nothing more than watching his beloved Man Utd and Ospreys rugby, whilst defending himself from the claws of his cat Mabli.
