The Golden Lion Tamarin is native to the Brazilian jungle. Threatened with extinction, MONKEY JUNGLE proudly participates in an international effort to save the tiny creature.
The Monkey Jungle is located about 40 minutes from central Miami and South Beach and offers a unique tranquil calm from the chaos of downtown Miami traffic.
As you walk into this ‘jungle’ you are offered the opportunity to feed and meet the monkey’s – magical for the children.
The selling point of this ‘monkey zoo’ is that the monkey’s are in a ‘natural habitat’ and you are caged from them…
You can buy raisins and cranberry’s for 75 cents to feed the monkey’s.
The first attraction is the wild monkey’s in the ‘swimming pool’.
This is compelling, cute and wonderful to hear the keepers passion for the animals. These monkey’s are free to roam at their leisure.
You can see the monkey’s in their most natural environment enjoying their community and family.
The 5 month old baby monkey was especially adorable.
Sadly not all of the jungle is ‘cage free’. I found it slightly concerning that some monkey’s were in wired cages with seemingly no toys, bedding or padding, straw or saw-dust on the floor of the cage.
In fact most of the animals in this park, especially the gorgeous parrots were caged which was disappointing considering the explicit tag line of the ‘jungle’.
This attraction is a great way to spend a couple of hours despite not totally living up to its cage free promise.
I totally appreciate it is very tricky to separate the animals and keep the birds secure without cages – it just wasn’t what I was expecting.
This is a lovely attraction for the children however I cannot deny some of the caged animals made me slightly uncomfortable.
