Jennie Bond On Queen’s 70th Anniversary

Enjoy Celebrity Radio’s Jennie Bond On Queen’s 70th Wedding Anniversary…

This year, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates 70 years of marriage to His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, making their union the longest royal marriage in British history.

To mark the platinum anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and to coincide with the launch of a commemorative coin, the London Mint Office commissioned research exploring the changing face of marriage over the past 70 years.

The study revealed seismic changes to both weddings and marriage values since the royal couple exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey on the 20th November 1947.

We went to speak to broadcasting legend Jennie Bond about this remarkable platinum anniversary.

There have been more than 22 million weddings in England and Wales alone in that period2 however the amount number of marriages overall has seen a sharp decline.

Her Majesty celebrates her 70th (Platinum) wedding anniversary with Prince Philip:

There were 401,210 marriages in 1947 – with numbers peaking at 426,241 in 1972. However this has nearly halved – to just 247,372 opposite sex marriages and 4,850 marriages between same sex couples in 20143.
