It’s been a massive few years for Jason Manford.
First, he shot to fame on the comedy circuit quickly selling out huge venues across the UK, then he starred in C4’s biggest quiz ‘8 out of 10 Cats’ and then he fell in love and found time to have twins.
Jason launched his own chain of comedy clubs in 2014. He became a father of 5 in Jan 2015.
In 2009 Jason was announced as the new Star of The One Show and went on to entertain in the countries biggest arenas including the O2.
Along the way Jason has been caught up in several phone sex and sexting scandals which led to the announcement of his divorce in May 2013.
Alex caught up with him in 2011 to talk about his remarkable life and career….
Manford was born in Salford, Greater Manchester. He grew up in a terraced house in what is known as the “Triangle of Death” area of Manchester notorious for its gang activity and high crime rate.
He has three younger brothers: Stephen, Colin and Niall, and a younger sister, Danielle.
When Manford was seventeen he got a job as a glass collector at a local pub. While working there he became interested in comedy after watching the likes of Peter Kay, Eddie Izzard and Johnny Vegas perform at the local comedy club.
Kay recommended him to do the Higher National Diploma in media and performance at the University of Salford.
Despite not having the required A Level grades he was accepted into the programme and eventually upgraded to a full degree.
His brother Colin has followed him into comedy and is also a University of Salford graduate.
Jason Manford launched his own brand of comedy clubs in 2014.
