Enjoy Celebrity Radio’s Ian Cumming Interview Great British Bake Off Saving Bees….
Due to the effects of the weather, this year’s elderflower harvest has come
later than normal. This week marks the real start of the harvest with
elderflowers finally exploding in the hedgerows.
But there is one thing even more important to the success of the harvest, and that is the bee – without it there would be no harvest.
The humble honey bee is so much more than a lovable insect buzzing about in
our gardens reminding us of idyllic summer days; they are critical to plants
and food production.
In fact, every third forkful of food we put in our mouths
is dependent on insect pollinators and honey bees are the most important.
But, there is a global honeybee crisis right now.
A big fan of both elderflower and honey in his cooking, Ian has developed
some show-stopping recipes that truly celebrate our great British summers
and champions the wonderful ingredients that can be foraged for at this time
of year.
Joining us now to share his recipes and enlighten us when it comes to
foraging and growing our own is The Great British Bake Off’s Ian Cumming and from the Bee Keepers Association Jane Moseley….
Hear Ian and Jane Moseley from the Bee Keepers Assocation in conversation:
Alongside Ian is Jane Moseley from The British Bee Keepers Association
who will explain the dangers our honey bees are in and how people can help
them (Ian’s father keeps bees and so he may have some tips of his own),
and Pev Manners, MD of Belvoir Fruit Farms – what he doesn’t know about
elderflowers and the elderflower harvest isn’t worth knowing!
