Calamity Jane Review Jodie Prenger

Enjoy Celebrity Radio’s Calamity Jane Review Starring Jodie Prenger…..

Jodie Prenger is one of the UK’s most loved, talented and popular theatre actresses.

It’s no wonder that she steals the show with her stunning vocals, authentic warmth and huge charisma during the UK tour of Calamity Jane.

This show gets off to a ponderous start but quickly crescendo’s into a compelling, high energy, beautifully performed musical master-class offering exceptional quality for local audiences during this uplifting, heartfelt and cute musical.

With West End quality performances like Tom Lister who owns the stage as ‘Wild Bill Hickok’ with his powerful, moving and commanding vocals as well as Phoebe Street who angelically delivers her roll perfectly as Katie Brown – you’ve got a hit show across the UK through August 2015.

Most importantly this show at the Nottingham Theatre Royal was a sell-out. Virtually unheard of and a true testament to this glorious production.

I’ve made no secret of my admiration for Ms. Prenger. She was born to entertain and ‘Calamity’ allows her to show-off / perform all of her many talents in this unique role.

Vocally Jodie is as strong as any Star I’ve seen on Broadway and in the West End as she proves with her killer, knock-out and wonderfully controlled and delivered vocals during ‘Secret Love’ – the epitome of an 11 O’clock number at the end of the show.

Jodie Prenger is a true leading lady who absolutely deserves to be the face and voice of this huge national tour. Here’s Jodie singing ‘Secret Love’ so beautifully from Calamity Jane:

Several scenes during Calamity Jane are truly inspired and creatively brilliant. The lighting is up their with the best I’ve seen on tour and the sound was excellent. So rare during touring productions.

Huge accolades should go to the cast of tremendously talented ensemble who seemingly play every instrument on earth. So inspiring and rare. To see an entire cast sing, dance and act effortlessly is so rare and utterly inspired.

Obviously the wordy script of Calamity Jane is witty, funny and at times laugh-out-loud hysterical. Jody brings this to life perfectly with the true heart and pathos of the show. Jodie has the warmth and vocals of Dolly Parton – how could you not love her?

It’s ultimately a love story and unlike so many has a true happy ending! The standing ovation from this sell-out crowd was totally deserved.

My only main criticism goes to the dope next to me who ate a full buffet during the show and the fart head behind me who for some reason thought this was a ‘karaoke’ production. I gave him short shrift during Jodie’s stunning belter ‘Secret Love’. That didn’t stop him doing appalling harmonies which made me want to punch him or at least shove the ladies pork pie next to me in his enormous gob! Public hangings should be brought back for such unbearable ignorance and rudeness in my view – what do I know?

Enjoy Alex Belfield & Jodie’s latest chat from Autumn 2014 about this brand new production:

Visually this show is stimulating and they use the single set as creatively as humanly possible.

The choreography at some points was a master-class in stage management. Not an inch wasted and invigorating moves and atmosphere. Bravo!

Don’t miss Calamity Jane. 4****

Calamity Jane can outrun and outshoot any man in Deadwood. Hard, boastful and desperate to impress, she travels to Chicago on the Deadwood Stage to recruit a star, Adelaide Adams. But things don’t go too smoothly for Calamity, as everyone in town favours the new girl and she struggles to keep her jealousy and pride in check. It takes her long standing enemy Wild Bill Hickok to make her see sense, and realise her Secret Love…
