A new survey of 2,000 people, commissioned by Sanofi Pasteur, suggests that only 17% of British holidaymakers always get a travel health risk assessment* before they travel.1 9 in 10 (95%) British holidaymakers are venturing beyond the resort and exploring their surroundings while they are abroad,1 which could further increase their risk of travel-related illness. Many of the people surveyed are unaware that vaccination may be recommended for destinations such as Turkey (75%), Morocco (49%) and Mexico (48%),1,3-5 which are among the top 15 destinations visited by UK holidaymakers.
Of those surveyed who never get the recommended vaccinations for their destination (n=240), over half (55%) stated they didn’t know they needed to get any travel vaccinations, 27% didn’t leave enough time to seek travel health advice before a trip and approximately one in five (21%) revealed they don’t know how to go about getting travel vaccination.
