I caught Amaluna in Miami the day before it heads to Houston.

It will then travel abroad to Madrid, Tarragona & Brussels later in the year in its unique tent / village. It holds around 2500 people.

Taking around 8 days to set up, this enormous moving production could only travel the world due to Cirque’s experience, planning and frankly ludicrously large budgets. It’s truly a remarkable achievement.

As with all Cirque shows, the story is cute but just a conduit to connecting the bespoke and brilliant ‘spec’ acts.

These acts have dedicated their entire lives to perfecting their specific skill whether it be tumbling, juggling, rope walking or acrobatics.

They say you need to do something for 10,000 hours to be good at it – these people have clearly been practising for 20,000!

Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon.

Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honours femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.

The staging of Amaluna is classic ‘Cirque’ with glorious set and lighting design plus their signature costumes, make-up and music.

If you have not seen a Cirque Du Soleil production….you haven’t seen a show. They’re simply the best in the world at this type of anthemic theatre.

I first saw Cirque Du Soleil in Las Vegas. There you will find the biggest and most spectacular residency shows in the world.

You cannot compare the ‘touring’ productions to the mind-blowing scale of the MGM-Mirage spectaculars but the feel and remarkable talent is just the same.

You cannot fail to be impressed by the brilliance of the talent in these shows.

What is even more inspired is that aside from the production genius – Cirque allow each of these stunning acts to shine in their own special segments within the show.

The Live band in Amaluna are sensational, moving and drive the show throughout.

As with the acrobats, Cirque celebrate the talented musicians by bringing them out on stage to entertain throughout the production.

The hugely talented singers and guitarists in particular could easy hold the audiences attention by themselves.

I won’t spoil the show by detailing the acts but the absolute strength of the ‘Chinese Pole’ leaves you speechless and breathless! Incredible talent.

Another act who blows your mind is the ‘Manipulation’ act which had everyone on the edge of their seats with her incredible discipline, concentration and unthinkably steady hand.

The thing about Cirque is they balance entertainment with pushing physical boundaries and building tension.

I’ve seen almost every production by Cirque Du Soleil but they still seem to find something new for each show.

Whether it’s staging, the acts themselves or even the costumes – I guarantee by the end of the show you’ll be saying “I have no idea how they do that!”
