RIP Sir Ken Dodd Tribute

Celebrity Radio’s RIP Sir Ken Dodd Tribute…

Sir Ken Dodd, creator of the Diddy Men and one of the most popular comedians in history, has died aged 90.

On Friday, he had married Anne Jones, his partner of 40 years, at their home in Knotty Ash. This is the same house he grew up in, in his beloved Liverpool.

I was lucky & honoured to call Sir Ken my friend. I first met Doddy aged 12. He’s been a shining light, through thick and thin, for my entire adult life & career.

What an honour and a privilege to meet, know, befriend, learn from, admire, adore and love Sir Ken Dodd.

This was Ken’s final gift to me. It was the last time we met after 25 years of friendship:

It’s the end of an era. There will never be another Sir Ken Dodd.

He’s never stopped touring for almost 70 years. A life of generating happiness.

Right until the end his shows were sold out. What a remarkable legacy.

Here’s our last chat in Blackpool on October 28th 2017:

Sir Ken began his career in 1954 in my home time of Nottingham. He was born the son of a coal merchant in 1927.

In the 1960s, he made it into the Guinness Book of Records for telling 1,500 jokes in three and a half hours.

Here’s Sir Ken’s life story in his own words taken from 40+ interviews over the 20+ years that I knew him…

Ken was also famed for his singing, his signature tune Happiness was released in 1964.

Tears outsold John Lennon’s IMAGINE which is an incredible reflection on his success.

Sir Ken & I after receiving his Knighthood at Buckingham Palace 2017:

His single Tears was the third highest-selling song of the 1960s in Britain, beaten only by two Beatles singles.

The Sun Newspaper 13th March 2018:

Lady Anne told us “Ken had a wonderful life, I just didn’t want it to end.

“He used to say to people who told him they have lost a loved one, ‘you haven’t lost them, they’ll always be with you’, tapping his heart.

“And I keep telling myself that.”

The 76-year-old also paid tribute to the immense love and support she has received in the days after the comedian’s death.
