Kinky Boots is a joyous 2.5 hours of powerful theatre. The ovations throughout tonight’s performance were the loudest I’ve EVER heard at a musical!
The energy in the room was infectious & overwhelming. This may be down to the Panic! At the Disco front man Brendon Urie leading the cast as ‘Charlie Price’. He makes his Broadway debut look easy. He’s quite remarkable.
Kinky Boots has just celebrated its 4-year anniversary on Broadway. It’s the heart-warming story of a shoemaker from Northampton who is about to loose everything until he thinks outside of the shoebox!
Brendon is joined by J. Harrison Ghee as ‘Lola’ – the epitome of a Broadway Star. Good lord this guy is sensational. What a voice, what presence, what effortless connection with the audience.
Urie and Ghee have one thing in common. They’re both remarkable singers with a beauty you’ll rarely hear live. Pitch perfect, powerful, almost angelic and utterly compelling.
Collectively these two steal the show, in fact they own the show and make it a 5* smash hit!

There was a unique energy in the sold out audience tonight. It’s was electrifying at times.
This show is camp, OTT, flamboiyant, moving and has a message of acceptance and hope. It’s cheeky but not vulgar – a masterful balance.
It has to be said that Ghee drives the entire show with his effortless energy and talent. It’s so thrilling to see someone so brilliant live. His version of ‘Hold me in your arms’ was truly breathtaking and the best I’ve EVER heard. That number would be worth the ticket price alone.
Some of the music in this show is epic. Cyndi Lauper has done a truly incredible job.

The set is relatively simple and uninspiring but is saved by some sensational lighting, hugely creative stage management and of course the costumes.
They’ve invested in a state of the art surround sound system which amplified the band superbly. This is an emotional show that becomes a rock concert at times.
Nods also to Taylor Louderman & Daniel Stewart Sherman who add greatly to the show.
Kinky Boots has some truly astonishing moments. The end of act one is a work of theatrical genius, not to mention a health and safety nightmare!
Imagine 4 moving treadmills and 20 actors all going in different directions at the same time – exciting and thrilling to watch.
I’ve rarely felt such a ‘community’ feel in a theatre. EVERYONE was on the same page – young and old tonight. Inspiring.
I’m mostly a critic of producers putting ‘celebrities’ or ‘pop stars’ into shows to sell ticket, but, Brendon Urie is a huge Star who was born entertain and absolutely deserves this mammoth and tricky role. This stage proves his huge talent as a charming actor and remarkable singing.
As for J Harrison Ghee, he’s the epitome of X-Factor. A lifetime of dedication in front of your eyes. A remarkable performer.
