3* Review Grange Hotel Holborn

Our Score
Review Grange Hotel Holborn…

Lets be clear, despite advertising, this is not a 5* hotel. It’s an average 4* hotel – 3* by London standards.

This hotel has a 5* location, just seconds from Covent Garden and the West End, but sadly, the rooms are a little shabby.

There’s issues like no plugs by the bed – it’s 2017, I need 3, 4 with the hair dryer!

Breakfast is £23, no thanks! I’m in the West End, I can go anywhere for half the price in a far more fun and glamorous surrounding.

On the positive side – it’s clean, central and cheap (relatively) at £150 per night at the weekend.

As you check-in it is cramped, busy and has an air of an airport hotel – surprising considering the hype on The Grange Hotels website.

Service was swift and efficient but this does not feel exclusive.

The 2017 traveller is sophisticated. Who has cassette tapes anymore? Who wants to clean up after a leaky shower?…

There’s a couple of nice touches, the rooms come with complimentary fresh fruit and free wifi which is exceptionally fast. I was able to upload this review in seconds!

Naturally you get dressing gown, slippers and all of the facilities required for a ‘luxury’ stay.

There is of course room service and a gym in basement for all guests should you require it.

The bathrooms are large but I hate a bath & shower combo – I’ll stick to the shower.

Again, a 5* hotel in 2017 would have a separate shower and bath, but, like the décor & tired and beaten furniture – this hotel is 20 years behind the times.

There are complimentary shampoo’s etc as you would expect although no razor, toothbrush or comb like most 5* hotels provide in the Capital.

I guess you get what you pay for….

This stay was £150 via Lastminute.com. Last night I stayed at the St Pancras Hotel which is also 5* but £499 – the two are incomparable.

Value for money, yes! 5* and a luxury experience ‘no’. I shall not be returning.
