Review Sunset Boulevard UK Tour….

Sunset Boulevard is back on tour in 2017/2018 across the UK following remarkable reviews in the West End last year.

Sunset opened tonight in Leicester starring the sensational Ria Jones (who stole the show as the understudy to Glenn Close in London) & the hugely charming & talented Danny Mac.

SB is undoubtedly one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s timeless jewels featuring iconic hits like “With One Look”, “The Perfect Year”, “The Greatest Star Of All” and the title track.

Visually this show is deliciously immersive, cinematic and gloriously staged.

Overall the UK tour is decadent with stunning costumes, a beautiful orchestra, perfect sound, gorgeous lighting & captivating staging.

Telling the story of a Star whose self belief rises her fame flops – you cannot help to be endeared by the tragedy of celebrity delusion.

Danny Mac opens the show with punch and arguably drives the entire production. He certainly works his pecs off.

He’s charismatic, charming and offers perfect movement & vocals. He’s without question a matinee idol. A ‘Star’ name on the poster who absolutely deserves to be there!

Enjoy the Sunset Boulevard UK Tour opening night standing ovation:

Meanwhile, nods to Adam Pearce & Molly Lynch who both bring vocal brilliance, character & heart to the production.

The Star of the show though, naturally, is the formidable Ria Jones who is every inch a diva and star.

She pulls off the Norma Desmond toxic mix of arrogance matched in equal measure with insecurity & tragedy perfectly.

Here’s the Star of the show, Norma Desmond – Ria Jones in conversation:

This show is way beyond the Star quality, standard, size & scale of most touring productions.

It would easily be a 4*+ West End smash and deserves to go to town next year.

On the road, it is faultless and once again proves that the regions deserve, and should be given, Broadway standard precision for the average £30+ ticket.

At times the swirling staircase is a little dizzying, however, the set (although relatively simple) is utterly captivating.

The magic combination of lights, sound & staging has rarely been done better on tour.

The use of video throughout Sunset Boulevard is also sensational and makes the show remarkably slinky, well paced & contemporary. An unobtrusive but powerful element of this production.

Don’t miss Sunset Boulevard on tour – pure class!
