Enjoy Celebrity Radio’s Exclusive Review of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Review…
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time is one of the most original, compelling and visually inspiring plays that I have been fortunate to experience in my 20 year career.
It uses the ‘old fashioned’ principles of an amazing story with 2015 set, technology, scenery, music, lighting and choreography which culminates in a hugely memorable 2.5 hours in a theatre.
This production won 7 Olivier Awards including Best Play in 2013.
This play tells the story of an autistic boy who has two life changing ‘incidents’ – this moving story of love, betrayal & personal triumph is nothing short of inspired and inspiring.

Mark Haddon’s book has been a favourite loved by all generations for many years but how does this story translate to the stage?
Abram Rooney took the lead of Christopher during my performance and masterfully owned the stage with this exhaustingly brilliant & physical performance.
The play explores the reality and challenges of living with Asperger Syndrome – a severe form of autism. Although blessed with mathematical genius, simple human communication is almost impossible.
It celebrates the qualities of an Asperger’s child and certainly doesn’t make fun or mockery of Christopher’s behaviour…no mater how extreme or bizarre.
Alex Belfield went to the Gieldgud Theatre on Shaftsbury Avenue to meet one of the Stars of the show Emily Joyce who played Christopher’s mother.
Emily has worked for the National, RSC in the West End and on TV on shows including Midsummer Murders, The Bill, Silent Witness and much more.
Ms. Joyce tells Alex more about this staggering production:
The staging of this production is some of the most sophisticated and complicated in the world. I marvelled at the complexity of the script matched with the lighting, sound and set.
This show has true heart. They’ve mastered the art of tension, passion and drama measured with humour for light relief. Some of this show is truly hysterical.
To find a play in the West End, on Broadway or even on tour that is new, exciting and thrilling to watch is incredibly rare. TCIOTDITNT ticks all of the boxes.
Curious Incident…. plays on Broadway at the Barrymore Theatre, at the Gieldgud Theatre in the West End and on tour in the USA and UK.
5* Review by Alex Belfield for Celebrity Radio recorded 5th March 2015.
