Galatoire’s Restaurant Review Bourbon Street New Orleans

Enjoy Celebrity Radio’s Galatoire’s Restaurant Review New Orleans LA USA 2015…

Sadly I have to file this review under ‘Some you win some you lose’.

I was excited to visit ‘New Orleans most famous and loved restaurant’ on the 13th Jan 2015 on the world famous Bourbon Street.

As I arrived I was curious about the over lit dining room packed with chatty diners on the ground / 1st floor….

I looked at the menu and was thrilled with the selection of fresh fish, meats and various local delicacies.

I was served by a rather pompous gentleman who made it clear I should be grateful to be in such a legendary eatery.

His confidence was overwhelming and I couldn’t be more thrilled to sample his magnificent food.

I’ve never seen a place so full and bustling with more servers per square inch in my 20 year reviewing career.

Founded in 1905 by Jean Galatoire, this infamous address distinguished itself on Bourbon St. from its humble beginning.

From the small village of Pardies, France, Jean Galatoire brought recipes and traditions inspired by the familial dining style of his homeland to create the menu and ambiance of the internationally-renowned restaurant.

The website says “In its fifth generation, it is the Galatoire family and descendants who have carried the tradition of New Orleans’ fine dining restaurants and influenced its evolution.”

I ordered the turtle soup to begin, followed by the catch of the day and a chocolate mouse to end.

Firstly the bread arrived – delicious! Warm, soft, fresh – perfect!

Next the turtle soup came – equally enjoyable, wholesome, rustic and packed with flavour.

By this point it was 8pm and the room was full. The noise was literally deafening.

I’ve never heard such a row – and they weren’t even talking over music as there wasn’t any!

I cannot believe this place continues to sell out.

Next came the fish of the day which was piled high with almonds…interesting I thought.

I ordered the asparagus and hollandaise which was delightful.

Sadly the fish was a good 5 minutes over cooked. Dry as a bone and as crispy as if it had been deep fried.

Finally my mouse arrived topped with squirty can cream and sprinkles.

Here’s the problem, with August down the street (best restaurant in town) offering 2015 delicate cuisine in a gorgeous atmosphere – this restaurant simply cannot compete.

It was noisy, old fashioned, pompous and expensive (relatively – although still cheap by UK standards).

I take no joy giving Galatoires 3* at best.

This restaurant has no finesse and is 20 years behind customer expectations for my liking.

Maybe this explains the very mixed reviews on Travel Advisor which I wish I hadn’t ignored.

So sad. I wanted to LOVE this meal.
