This is not Mamma Mia – you must invest your time and heart in this show.
Featuring this now legendary & timeless score, songs include “I Dreamed A Dream,” “On My Own,” “Bring Him Home,” and “One Day More,”.
There are some remarkable performances on Broadway, although the ‘Star’ Alfie Boe was “out” for my performance. In fact, with only 12 days on stage in October, this world class tenor has been ‘out’ more than ‘in’ since joining the show.
Thankfully, nothing was lost by Boe’s absence as J. Michael Finley was masterful in his delivery of Jean Valjean. A stella world class performance as good as anyone I’ve ever heard and seen in the role.
The Fall cast of Les Miserable has some stand-out Stars. Earl Carpenter brings a new cold menace to Javert, beautifully delivered. Most surprising was Gavin Lee who brought a clown like brilliance to Thenardier – the most hysterical and compelling I’ve seen – certainly a complete change from Bert in Mary Poppins!
Kudos to Montego Glover as a glorious Fantine, Brennyn Lark as a delightful Eponine, Chris McCarrell who is uterly charming as Marius & Wallace Smith who was also perfectly cast as Enjolrus.
Les Miz is a sure bet. You have to invest in the story as this is a rare master-class in a play being turned into a musical.
