Mel Brooks is a genius! The Producers was without question his best work, Young Frankenstein wasn’t quite a good but a great giggle.

Fred Applegate is an American actor, singer and dancer.

He is best known for originating the roles of Inspector Kemp and The Blind Hermit in the Broadway musical Young Frankenstein.

Fred worked with Mel on The Producers film and play, so Alex went to talk to him in Young Frank…..

Young Frankenstein, officially known as The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein, is a musical with a book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks.

It is based on the 1974 comedy film of the same name written by Brooks and Gene Wilder and directed by Brooks, who has described it as his best film.[1] It is a parody of the horror film genre, especially the 1931 Universal Pictures adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and its 1939 sequel, Son of Frankenstein.

After tryouts in Seattle, Washington and four weeks of previews, the musical opened on Broadway on November 8, 2007 to mixed reviews.

The Broadway production closed on January 4, 2009 after 30 previews and 484 performances. A U.S. tour started on September 29, 2009 in Providence, Rhode Island.

The Producers is a musical adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks’ 1968 film of the same name, with lyrics written by Brooks and music composed by Brooks and arranged by Glen Kelly and Doug Besterman.

As in the film, the story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop.

The humour of the show draws on ridiculous accents, characters of homosexuals and Nazis, and many show business in-jokes.

After 33 previews, the original Broadway production opened at the St. James Theatre on April 19, 2001, starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, and ran for 2,502 performances, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards.

It spawned a successful London production running for just over two years, US national tours, many productions worldwide and a 2005 film version.

This is Belfield’s favourite show EVER!

The Producers won the most amount of awards ever on Broadway. When it came to the West End it did gang busters business at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane!

This is truly a Mel Brooks masterpiece!
