In September 2011 Belfield flew to Nova Scotia to spend a week touring some of the most interesting, diverse and beautiful parts of Canada.

From whale watching to clam fishing, from Halifax to the Bay of Fundy….Alex will do it all! And of cause along the way he will enjoy some of the best restaurants in North America!

1st September 12.35pm – Belfield flew in with Air Canada into Halifax.

“One of the best flying experiences I’ve ever had” is how he described it.

Before taking off from Heathrow, Alex caught up with General Manager of Passenger Sales Robert Atkinson;

Hear about the connection between Halifax and the Titanic. Over 350 of the dead were brought to Halifax following the disaster.

Alex went to the Public Archives to find out about the documents and artefacts housed in Nova Scotia.

1st September 7pm – Five Fisherman Restaurant on Grafton Street.

This really is an incredible eatery where you get amazing seafood and incredible history.

This former mortuary from the 1800’s has been turned into one of the most high profile and popular restaurants in Canada. Enjoy the incredible seafood and service!

Alex highly recommends the Ambassatours ‘Big Blue Bus Tour’.

It really offers a wonderful history into the history of Halifax!

Alex learnt so many fascinating stories at the deeply moving Fairview Cemetery where many of the dead from the Titanic were laid to rest.

You cannot visit Halifax without learning about the worlds most famous sea tragedy and its connection to Nova Scotia.

2nd September 4pm – Belfield visits the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

This is a fascinating museum with many original artefacts from the Titanic including a deck chair, parts of the original oak staircase and even the shoes from the ‘unknown child’.

Alex spoke to Dan, the museum curator;

Dinner at Ryan Duffy’s on Bedford Row was superb! Simply the best Caesars Salad I’ve ever eaten and pure theatre table side!

I recommend the ‘bone-in tenderloin crusted with Djion mustard and blue cheese’ is out of this world!

Ryan Duffy’s is a must visit when in Halifax! Alex went to talk to GM Heather Coffen;

A wonderful dining experience that Alex says is “as good, if not better than any London, New York or Vegas steakhouse!”

You must enjoy a lovely walk along the harbour and enjoy the many restaurant, bars and food stalls. You can also take one of the many boat trips!

Bearly’s Houe of Blues and Ribs! Enjoy one of Halifax’s oldest, most traditional and fun local pubs where you can sit and listen to great music and enjoy traditional food.

Regarded as one of the best rib houses in Halifax, Bearly’s won’t disappoint!

This place is full of warmth and character, try the haddock or ribs with a bottle of Irish Red beer….you won’t be disappointed!

Any trip to Nova Scotia must involve a road trip! As cool as Halifax is, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen the incredible coast line down to the Bay of Fundy!

On Sunday 4th Sept 2011 Alex hired a car and drove 45 minutes from Halifax to the glorius Peggy’s Cove.

A beautiful community surrounded by clear blue waters;

Next follow Route 3 for an hour to Mahone Bay.

Enjoy the wonderful arts and crafts stores and walk the coastline of this fab town.

15 minutes later you will arrive in one of Nova Scotia’s gems, Lunenburg.

Be sure to call in and see the restoration of the Bluenose 11.

You genuinely feel you could go for dinner leaving you engine running in the car and 2 hours later it would still be there.

This town of 2500 people really epitomise the spirit of community!

You can find out the entire history of Lunenburg at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. Sadly there are only 3 fishing boats left in the town.

Enjoy dinner at the wonderful ‘Fleur de Sel’. Recently voted one of Air Canada’s top 10 restaurants!

This really is as good as any restaurant you’ll find in Paris, New York or London. The food is beautifully presented and the staff are well informed, friendly and incredibly helpful with the menu.

Alex spoke to Executive Chef Martin Salvador about his wonderful family restaurant.

Sept 5th – Kejimkujik National Park!

If you’re visiting Nova Scotia you must drive about 2 hours south to the Kejimkujik National Park, the scenery is incredible, the people are more than lovely and the experience you will remember for a lifetime.

Kaji realy does have some of the most diverse glorious scenery and walks I’ve ever experienced!

Next I checked into the ‘Mersey River Chalets’!

It was so much fun living the wilds…with no TV! The scenery and boat trips are wonderful!

Sept 6th – Clam Digging!

You really must visit Terry in Digby for a wonderful afternoon of Clam digging.

He’s been doing it nearly 50 years and his father did it for his entire life!

You will learn about some of the ways these hard working men/women have lived through challenging times in the clamming industry.

Fundy Adventures ran by Wanda is a perfect way to meet a local legend!

After the hard work of finding lunch you get to enjoy Live music from Terry whilst enjoying eating your lunch!

September 7th 2011 – Briar Island Whale Watching!

You must drive to the south west coast of Nova Scotia to experience a trip of a lifetime….a whale watching trip in the Bay of  Fundy!

It is breath-taking, life changing and so much fun to travel 2.5 hours south of Halifax to Brier Island to go whale watching! It is something you will remember for the rest of your life!
